New "Dead On '67" Guitar Review Click Image to Enlarge
This soon to be released new model from Danelectro was in part inspired by Pete Townshend's original 1967 Coral Hornet. I'm very impressed! The body contours are vintage correct. Fit and finish is superb. Neck to body fit is SUPER tight. Neck is a comfortable "D"-shaped with 21 vintage frets, nut width is 1.750”, fretboard radius is 14”, scale length is 24.75". Electronics include USA Alpha control pots, "hotter" Lipstick pickups (hum-canceling when both on), 2 volume and 2 tone controls with 3 way toggle. Adjustable truss rod works nicely. Fretwork is top notch. Plays excellent everywhere on the neck. Unplugged it rings out LOUD strung with 10-46 set. Plugged in it sounds GREAT. Full, loud, useful musical tones. The tremelo works well {when used within its obvious design limitations} aided by the perfectly straight string alignment from bridge to tuners, well seated and cut nut, and tight, smooth tuners. And yes, the bridge with rosewood saddle intonates just fine. Excellent looking matte
finish {this one's Cobalt Blue} with brushed nickel hardware. This example came in at a very comfortable 5 lbs. 14 oz.. They even nailed the unique swirly "Reflective Stylized" pickguard of the originals. I want to add this particular guitar is a pre-production model, not a production run instrument. The updates are the production run will have shielded electronics and a heavier bridge plate. If you love cool guitars, great tones, & excellent playability, you really need to check one out!
